First In-House Counsel (m/f/d)
About HOLY
About the Position
As HOLY’s first In-House Counsel, you run the legal function end-to-end for a EUR 200m revenue business across six markets, advising across Corporate, Commercial, IP and Marketing & Advertising Law, Food Law, and Litigation & Disputes. The role has been created because Legal has so far been managed on an interim basis by our Special Projects Lead, and it’s time to internalise the function and reduce reliance on external counsel.
Your mission:
Turn complexity into clear, actionable decisions that keep the business moving. You don't start from scratch. Tooling, processes, documentation, and templates are already in place. The task is to take this foundation to the next level, deepening content quality, expanding coverage, and building pragmatic structures that allow HOLY to scale without unnecessary legal friction. Risks are identified early, handled pragmatically, and consciously accepted where appropriate.
The role requires both strategic thinking for the long term and hands-on execution in the short term. While this starts as an individual contributor role, it is not a lonely one: The Special Projects Lead provides full continuity of context, part-time processual support is in place, and additional internal resources for specific legal topics can be added where the business case supports it. The ambition is straightforward: For this role to grow into the General Counsel function as HOLY continues to scale.
Responsibilities:
- Be a true business partner to our Marketing, Sales, and Operations teams, taking ownership of legal topics encompassing everything from influencer campaigns and new market entries to product claims and packaging.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including contracts with suppliers, marketing agencies, influencers, and distribution partners.
- Develop and implement scalable legal processes and templates that empower our teams to move quickly and efficiently while managing risk.
- Manage our intellectual property portfolio, including trademark searches and registrations, to protect our most valuable assets.
- Monitor the regulatory landscape for changes affecting our business (especially in food, supplement, and advertising law) and translate them into practical guidance for the company.
Success looks like:
- Within 3 months, you have mastered our core legal processes, built strong relationships with key stakeholders, and are independently handling the majority of day-to-day legal queries.
- Within 6 months, you have become the trusted legal business partner for all commercial teams.
- Within 12 months, you fully own the legal enablement for all functions, are confidently leading complex negotiations, and are proactively developing and delivering legal training to empower our teams.
About You
You are a pragmatic problem-solver who sees the law as a tool to build the business, not to block it. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable making decisions with imperfect information. You have a high degree of ownership and can work autonomously, but you are also a collaborative team player who knows how to build trust across different departments. You communicate complex legal issues in a clear, simple, and actionable way, enabling your colleagues to make smart, informed decisions.
What you bring:
- Full qualification as a lawyer in Germany (Volljurist) or an equivalent EU jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in-house at a fast-growing B2C/D2C company in Germany.
- Experience in a law firm, practicing M&A or Corporate & Commercial Law.
- Strong practical knowledge of commercial, marketing, and consumer law. Experience with IP and food/supplement law is a major plus.
- Excellent communication and drafting skills in both German and English.
- A business-oriented, pragmatic mindset with a clear "get-it-done" attitude.
